ABSTRACT

Continuous cropping obstacle is the bottleneck of medicinal plant cultivation, which seriously affects the quality and yield of medicinal materials. The research on the mechanism of continuous cropping obstacle has evolved from soil physical and chemical properties and allelopathy in the 1970s to the changes of rhizosphere microenvironment and plant response mechanism at present. According to the available studies in this field and our previous research work, we systematically analyzed the mechanism of rhizosphere exudate-mediated microbial community reconstruction in the soil of the medicinal plants in continuous cropping. Specifically, rhizosphere exudates, providing the carbon source and energy for microbial growth, act as inducers or repellents to induce microbial growth or transfer, thereby changing the physicochemical properties (such as acidity) of rhizosphere soil and further altering the structure of rhizosphere microbial community. Further, we comprehensively discussed the ways of synergism between rhizosphere exudates and soil microorganisms in causing harm to the medicinal plants in continuous cropping. That is, rhizosphere exudates mediate the infection of the rhizosphere by pathogenic microorganisms, increase the susceptibility of the nearby plants, inhibit the defense of the host plants, and protect the pathogens to occupy the dominant niche. The synergistic interaction results in the release of more pathogenic factors such as mycotoxins by rhizosphere pathogens, enhanced toxicity of rhizosphere allelochemicals, and deterioration of soil physical and chemical properties. This paper summarizes the role of interaction between rhizosphere exudates and soil microorganisms in the formation of continuous cropping obstacles, aiming to provide a new research idea for revealing the formation mechanism as well as the theoretical support for overcoming continuous cropping obstacles of medicinal plants.

ABSTRACT

Lonicera Japonica Flos is the dried bud or nascent flower of Lonicera japonica(Caprifoliaceae). The plant suffers from various diseases and pests in the growth period and thus pesticides are often used. As a result, the resultant pesticide residues in Lonicera Japonica Flos have aroused great concern. This review summarized the investigation, detection methods, content analysis, and risk assessment of pesticide residues in Lonicera Japonica Flos since 1996, and compared the maximum residue limits among different countries and regions. The results showed that the pesticide residues were detected in Lonicera Japonica Flos from different production areas, and only some exceeded the limits. The residual pesticides have changed from organochlorines to new types such as tebuconazole and nitenpyram. The detection method has upgraded from chromatography to chromatography-mass spectrometry. Most pesticide residues will not cause health risks, except carbofuran. Pesticide residues limit the development of Lonicera Japonica Flos industry in China. In practice, we should improve the drug registration of Lonicera Japonica Flos, promote ecological prevention and control technology, and formulate and promote pesticide residue limit standard of Lonicera Japonica Flos.

ABSTRACT

Panacis Quinquefolii Radix is the dry root of Panax quinquefolium, which is a perennial plant of Araliaceae. The plant has a long growth cycle and serious growth barrier problem, which leads to the use of pesticides. As a result, the pesticide residues in Panacis Quinquefolii Radix are arousing great concern. This paper reviews the research findings on the investigation, detection methods, content analysis and risk assessment of pesticide residues in Panacis Quinquefolii Radix since 1993, and compares the pesticide residue limit standards of different countries and regions. The pesticide residues in Panacis Quinquefolii Radix have been changing from organochlorines with high toxicity to triazines and triazoles with low toxicity. The pesticide residues are generally low, while the pollution of pentachloronitrobenzene and other pesticides still exist. The detection method has evolved from chromatography to chromatography-mass spectrometry. There are no reports of health risks caused by pesticide residues of Panacis Quinquefolii Radix. Pesticide residue is a major factor restricting the sound development of Panacis Quinquefolii Radix industry in China. Therefore, we suggest to improve the registration of pesticides applied to the plant, popularize mature ecological planting mode and supporting technology, and strengthen the research on the risk assessment and limit standard of pesticide residue in Panacis Quinquefolii Radix.

ABSTRACT

The technique of "simulative habitat cultivation" is to preserve the quality of traditional Chinese medicine by simulating the original habitat and site environment of wild Chinese medicine resources. Dendrobium nobile is the most representative variety of traditional Chinese medicine which reflects the coordinated development of medicinal material production and ecological environment. In this paper, the main technical points of the simulated cultivation model of D. nobile were summarized as follows: rapid propagation of seedling tissue technology to ensure the genetic stability of provenance; line card+fermented cow manure+live moss method to improve the survival rate; epiphytic stone cultivation to improve the quality of medicinal materials; and the integration of mycorrhizal fungi to improve the quality stability of medicinal materials. On the basis of summarizing the ecological benefits, economical and social benefits generated by the application of the technology, the paper systematically analyzes the principle of the technology for the cultivation of D. nobile to promote the excellent quality, the light, gas, heat and fertilizer resources of the undergrowth niche are in line with the wild site environment of D. nobile. The rich and complex soil microbial community in the forest laid the foundation for the species diversity needed for the growth of D. nobile. The stress effect on the growth of D. nobile resulted in the accumulation of secondary metabolites. The symbiotic relationship between the symbiotic fungi such as bryophytes and D. nobile promotes the synthesis of plant secondary metabolites. The high quality D. nobile was produced efficiently by improving and optimizing the cultivation techniques.

ABSTRACT

Objective:To analyze the multi-slice spiral CT (MSCT) scan signs and the expression of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) patients. Methods:A total of 51 patients with HCC admitted to our hospital from April 2015 to December 2018 were enrolled. The VEGF positive rate, microvessel density (MVD) level, HCC VEGF positive and negative MVD levels, and MSCT were compared between HCC and paracancerous tissues. The level of angiogenesis index was scanned and the association between MSCT scan signs and VEGF and MVD was analyzed. Results:The positive rate of VEGF and MVD in HCC tissues were higher than that in adjacent tissues ( P<0.05); MVD in patients with VEGF positive HCC was higher than that in patients with VEGF negative ( P<0.05); There was no significant difference in the positive rate of VEGF and MVD between patients with lesions >5 cm and ≤ 5 cm ( P>0.05). The VEGF positive rate and MVD in patients with pseudocapsule without / incomplete were higher than those in patients with intact capsule; the VEGF positive rate and MVD in patients with high risk invasion were higher than those in patients with low risk; the VEGF positive rate and MVD in arterial blood supply were higher than those in patients with dual supply and insufficient blood supply ( P<0.05); MSCT scan showed that false capsule without / incomplete, high risk of invasion, arterial blood supply and double supply were positively correlated with VEGF and MVD, while less blood supply was negatively correlated with VEGF and MVD ( P<0.05). Conclusions:MSCT scan can accurately evaluate the size of HCC lesions, the presence of false capsule, invasion and metastasis, enhancement type, etc. No/incomplete pseudocapsule, high-risk invasion, arterial blood supply and dual supply are positively correlated with VEGF and MVD, while less blood supply is negatively correlated with VEGF and MVD. This can pro-vide a new rapid, simple and non-invasive examination method for the evaluation of tumor neovascularization and diagnosis and prognosis for HCC.

ABSTRACT

Objective To compare the effect of low concentration versus ultra-low concentration of ropivacaine in combination with sufentanil delivered via programmed intermittent epidural bolus (PIEB) with patient-controlled epidural analgesia (PCEA) during labour on obstetric and anesthetic outcomes. Methods Seventy-six ASA Ⅰ or Ⅱ nulliparous parturients who were at full term with a singleton fetus in vertex presentation were randomized to receive 0.1 % ropivacaine with 0.5 μg/mL sufentanil (Group L,38 cases) or 0.06% ropivacaine with 0.5 μg/mL sufentanil (Group UL,38 cases).Another matched 76 cases of primiparas without labor analgesia (Group C) served as controls. For primiparas received analgesia,an epidural catheter was inserted when the cervical dilatation was up to 2-3 cm.The analgesia level was controlled below T8,and VAS score was controlled below 4.Thirty minutes after analgesia started,Group L and UL received PIEB with PCEA regimen including basal infusion of 8 mL/h of ropivacaine with sufentanil,patient-controlled bolus 6 mL and lockout interval 10 minutes. The duration of labor, delivery mode,Apgar score,VAS score and anesthetic drug consumption of each group were recorded. Results The second stage of labor were not statistically different between Group UL and C.The second stage of Group L was longer than that of Group C (P<0.05).Furthermore,with similar performance in pain score and satisfactory level at each time point,Group UL consumed much less ropivacaine than Group L (P<0.05).The cesarean section rate, instrumental delivery rate and the Apgar score were not significantly different among the 3 groups. Conclusions While using PIEB with PCEA,0.06% ropivacaine was capable of providing satisfactory analgesia effects for primipara and has less effects on the obstetric outcome. Therefore,it could be recommended for labour analgesia.

ABSTRACT

Objective Fecal biomarkers have emerged as an important tool for assessing and monitoring disease activity in patients with inflammatory bowel disease ( IBD) .We aimed to investigate the diagnostic value of fecal neopterin and calprotectin in pa-tients with active inflammatory bowel disease and made comparison with that of serum C-reactive protein ( CRP) . Methods A total of 151 consecutive patients with IBD (84 CD and 67 UC) provided 2 gram fecal samples for the measurement of fecal neopterin( FNP) and calprotectin( FCP) concentrations and 2 milliliter blood samples for the serum C-reactive protein measurement before undergoing a colonoscopy.ELISA was applied in the measurement.Clinical disease activities were scored independently according to the Best Crohn′s Disease Activity Index(CDAI) in patients with CD, while the Modi-fied Mayo Scores in patients with UC.Comaprison was made in the relativity of each fecal marker and IBD activity score, the optimum value of diagnosing IBD acitivity as to each fecal marker, as well as sensitivity, specificity, moreover, receiver operating characteristic curve ( ROC) was drawn.50 healthy volunteers who received a normal colonoscopy were also enrolled as the control group and asked to give a 2 gram fresh stool sample. Results The FNP and FCP concentrations in patients with IBD were significantly higher than those in healthy control group(P<0.05).Both FNP and FCP concentrations differed significantly in clinically active IBD when compared with those in patients with inactive disease( P<0.001) .In CD patients, the correlation coefficients of FNP and FCP with CDAI were 0.55 and 0.59, respectively(P<0.001).In UC patients, the correlation coefficients of FNP and FCP with Mayo scores were 0.74 and 0.77, respectively( P<0.001) .The correlation coefficients of serum CRP in CD and UC patients with clinical scores were 0.49 and 0.60, respectively(P<0.001).The area under the ROC curve(AUC) of FNP and FCP for the diagnosis of clinical activity in pa-tients with CD were 0.75 and 0.80, respectively. The AUC of FNP and FCP in UC patients were 0.85 and 0.90, respectively. The AUC of serum CRP in patients with CD and UC were 0.65 and 0.74, respectively. When combined FNP with FCP, the AUC in pa-tients with CD and UC were 0.85 and 0.92, respectively. Conclusion FNP is a novel reliable and non-invasive biomarker to evalu-ate clinical disease activity in patients with IBD as accurate as FCP, It is advisable to combine FNP with FCP to evaluate disease activi-ty in patients with IBD.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE@#To explore the relationship between activity of plasma heparin cofactor II (HC II) and the incidence of in-stent restenosis aft er the intervention of arteriosclerosis obliterans in lower extremity.@*METHODS@#A total of 62 patients with arteriosclerosis obliterans in lower extremity underwent femoropopliteal stent implantation. They were divided into 2 groups: A high HC II activity group (≥100%, n=40) and a low HC II activity group (<100%, n=22). All patients filled in follow up tables and conducted body examination. Possible risk factors resulting in restenosis were collected. Patients were followed up for 6 months after femoropopliteal stent implantation.@*RESULTS@#Baseline clinical characteristics were not significantly different between the 2 groups. The degree and incidence of angiographic restenosis at the end of the 6th month after the implantation in the high HC II activity group were all significantly lower than those in the low HC II activity group (P<0.05). Multivariate analysis demonstrated that high plasma HC II activity was an independent factor in reducing the incidence of angiographic restenosis (OR=0.982, P=0.048, 95%CI, 0.966, 0.998).@*CONCLUSION@#High plasma HC II activity is an independent factor in reducing the degree of in-stent restenosis. The lower the plasma HC II activity, the severer the degree of in-stent restenosis.

OBJECTIVE@#To evaluate the safety and efficacy of percutaneous closure of the single secundum atrial septal defects (ASD) guided by transthoracic echocardiography (TTE) and/or transesophageal echocardiography (TEE).
@*METHODS@#From January, 2014 to December, 2014, thirty-two patients with single secundum ASD from Department of Cardiovascular Surgery, Union Hospital, Fujian Medical University, were treated with percutaneous closure of ASD guided by TTE or TEE.
@*RESULTS@#Thirty-two patients underwent ASD closure successfully, except one patient showed trivial residual shunts, which disappeared one month later. The remaining 31 patients were subjected to TTE. At once or at the 1st or 3rd month after the procedure, no ASD migration or residual shunts were observed.
@*CONCLUSION@#Percutaneous closure of ASD guided by TTE or TEE is a safe and effective surgery method with minimal invasion and can avoid the chest incision and radioscopy.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVEAntigen-presenting cells such as monocytes and dendritic cells (DCs) stimulate T-cell proliferation and activation during adaptive immunity. This cellular interaction plays a role in the growth of atherosclerotic plaques. Tanshinone II A (TSN) had been shown to decrease the growth of atherosclerotic lesions. We therefore investigated the ability of TSN to inhibit human monocyte-derived DCs and their T-cellstimulatory capacity.

METHODSDCs derived from human monocytes cultured with recombinant human interleukin (IL)-4 and recombinant human granulocyte-macrophage colony-stimulating factor were co-cultured with TSN and lipopolysaccharide for 48 h. Phosphate-buffered saline was used as a negative control. Activation markers and the capacity of DCs for endocytosis were measured by flow cytometry, and proinflammatory cytokines were measured by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays. DCs were co-cultured with lymphocytes to measure T-cell proliferation and IL-2 secretion by mixed lymphocyte reactions.

RESULTSTSN dose-dependently attenuated DC expression of costimulatory molecules (CD86), and decreased expression of major histocompatibility complex class II (human loukocyte antigen-DR) and adhesion molecules (CD54). Moreover, TSN reduced secretion of the proinflammatory cytokines IL-12 and IL-1 by human DCs, and restored the capacity for endocytosis. Finally, TSN-preincubated DCs showed a reduced capacity to stimulate T-cell proliferation and cytokine secretion.

CONCLUSIONSTSN inhibits DC maturation and decreases the expression of proinflammatory cytokines, while impairing their capacity to stimulate T-cell proliferation and cytokine secretion. These effects may contribute to the influence of TSN on the progression of atherosclerotic lesions.
